Adi thinking: This is the fourth time Janu has gotten sick. I cannot just sit by and even mom looks so worried. I must do something!
Adi
Appupa (Grandpa), I have gotten all the data and I know what to do! Janu needs a NEW girls-Only day care!
Grandpa Mohan
And how exactly did you reach that conclusion?
Adi
Janu has been sick 4 times since she joined daycare. Last time Sam was sick, this time Marty is sick. Its all the boys getting her sick Appupa!
Grandpa Mohan
Adi my dear child, thats good observations but really inncorrect conclusion. Yes Janu has been sick since she joined daycare, but its not because of the boys.
Her body is learning to figure out which are the bad germs that we come in contact with, when we go outside. It is a learning process like when you rode your cycle with training wheels.
Afterwards, her body will recognise the bad guys faster and she won't get that sick. We cannot just keep Janu at home all her life, she needs to experience it to get stronger.
Anubhav
Hey dad, can you taste the curry and tell me if its okay?
Grandpa Mohan
Sure son, will you tell me what's worrying you? It seems to be about more than the generous amounts of pepper in the curry.
Anubhav
Dad, you always understand me so well! Janu is almost one year old, and it's time for her first measles vaccine. She had all her shots up to six months, but she's been sick recently. I'm really worried about giving her this vaccine now. Can we just skip it or delay it?
Grandpa Mohan
Maybe because you have had a safer life....Its not the same for this old man. It is hard for me to forget....
Grandpa Mohan
One of my older brothers did not survive the measles outbreak in our town. His brain had swollen and there was no treatment. We all waited with him for his last moments. It made me feel so helpless, that's what motivated me to study.
Grandpa Mohan
She might be scared for a bit now and maybe she'll get a slight fever....
Grandpa Mohan
But her body will be trained to recognise the infection by those three viruses and prevent the situation from turning worse.
Anubhav
Thanks Dad, you know I have no idea of the sciency stuff. Harita was all for it, but I know shes way more rule oriented than I will ever be. I admit though, reading about the increasing cases of measles all over in the US and UK, was adding on to my worries.
Grandpa Mohan
Yes those cases are concerning. It is what happens when people who have the best facilites start thinking that they can control all bad outcomes.
But they forget how much the germs also change with time and the world is getting smaller now. There might be no evading a bad situation.
Granpa Mohan
But it is our duty as guardians to the future to make sure their future is the best possible one. All outcomes considered.
Grandpa Mohan
In the mood for some hot cocoa?
Harita
Thanks Acchu. This is perfect.
If only life was as easily resolved with a cup of coffee.....Its hard getting a promotion at work, all the so called EXPERIENCED people don't want anyone else up there.
I thought it would be different in my current company....
Grandpa Mohan
My dear child, you know I am eons away from understanding your workflow and algorithms to know how I can help you.
But you know speaking of experience....
Grandpa Mohan
When a virus attacks an older immune system that has gone through a lot and fought a lot of battles, they are able to easily identify the virus and decide the best response to it.
This is definitely something that gets better with age and experience.
Grandpa Mohan
However after a time the experienced immune system also gets a drawback. Expecting that older cells might not be as fit as younger ones, too many are recruited to the attack.
The result is chaos that can also end up causing self-injury to the organs.
Grandpa Mohan
What is important is balance between the older and younger perspective. Just like it is important for the human body, it will be for any other system.
Now I know you can work out how to best fit your abilities into the system. After all, I know how hard you have worked to get here.
4th Story:
Fight like the T cell or Support like the DCs?
Adi
You little troublemaker!!!!! Grandpa, she totaly ruined my Aladin T-shirt with her paints! And now shes sitting here pretending everthing is fine! Scold her Grandpa!
Janu
Oh ho ho ho!
So now you have no problem telling Apu! Why not tell about your fight with Matt huuuh?
Adi's old friend who is currently bullying him in class.
Grandpa Mohan
Ahah! Was this your masterplan Janu? But still you should not have ruined his shirt no.....
Janu
Sorry Apu.......but it was so saaad to see him cry yesterday and then he didnt say anything to Amma. Amma would dishum Mat.
Grandpa Mohan
Adi do you remember your favourite Anime?
Adi
You mean CELLS AT WORK, Appupa (grandpa)?
Grandpa Mohan
Yes Adi. Do you remember when the virus attacked the body, what did the T cell do first?
CELLS AT WORK Season 1 Episode 3: When Influenza infects the body
Adi
It got scared and ran away Appupa.
Grandpa Mohan
And then.......
Adi
It came back and became killer T cell and fought the virus Appupa.
Grandpa Mohan
So did the T cell get the strength to do it all by himself, Adi?
Adi
No Grandpa! The DC helped him. He taught him how to fight!
Grandpa Mohan
Adi so now you have two choices, you can take courage from your sister who cares about you and then go talk to Mat directly. Or you can be like the DC that informs other people about the situation. Tell your mom and then help her to talk to Mat or his parents.
Adi
Got it grandpa......I'll go and think about it some more.
Grandpa Mohan
And kuttu you? What do you want to be?
Janu
Macrwpa Grandpa! Shes soo cool!
